Does Base64 encoding hide or encrypt my data?

No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode the output. Use it to make binary or Unicode safe to transport, not to protect secrets.

What is URL-safe Base64?

The URL-safe alphabet replaces + with - and / with _. Optional padding removal drops trailing = characters. That combination is common in JWTs and in values that must sit in a URL without extra escaping.

Will Unicode and emoji survive a round-trip?

Yes. The tool encodes UTF-8 bytes, so accented text, CJK, and emoji decode back to the same string. You should not need a separate “UTF-8 mode”.

Why do I get an invalid Base64 error?

Decode expects a well-formed Base64 string. Extra spaces, a truncated value, or mixed alphabets can fail. Check that you pasted the full token and that URL-safe mode matches the alphabet you were given.
