That is the reverse of typing 285/75R16 and reading diameter — useful when you know “about 33 inches on a 17.”
Suggestions come from the same catalog widths and aspect ratios as plus-sizing. You will not get a fictional 281/73R17. Each row shows the size, its overall diameter, and how far it sits from the target so you can pick the closest shoppable code.
The filter is one inch of diameter, which is coarser than the Preferred ±2% band on the comparison tools. After you pick a candidate, run Tire Size Comparison or Plus Sizing against your actual OE size if speedometer error matters. Flotation codes are not suggested here — metric only.
