Enter what you paid (or will pay) for the set and the miles you expect to get. Cost per mile is price ÷ miles, shown to four decimal places so a $800 set at 40,000 miles does not round into the same bucket as a $1,100 set at 50,000.

You supply the life assumption: warranty miles, your own last-set experience, or a conservative number. The calculator does not invent tread life from compound or driving style. Taxes, mounting, alignments, and fuel economy stay outside the figure on purpose so the rate stays comparable.
